DCC polls schedule to be announced in mid-April: EC

The election schedule for the overdue Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) polls might be announced in middle of April aiming at holding the election within May, Election Commi-ssioner (EC) M Sohul Hussain said this Monday, reports UNB.
Talking to the journalists at the Election Commission office, Mr Hussain reiterated that the commission is working to hold the DCC polls within May as per its earlier plan and so the polls schedule would be announced 45 days ahead of the election date.
"We remain on our earlier stand about the DCC election held within May. We hope, we would be able to hold the polls by this time," the Election Commissioner said in reply to a question.
He stated that the task of delimitation of DCC area is going on and the work is expected to be completed within a week or two. After completing the delimitation, hearing would be held to settle any objection and after that the EC will announce the DCC election schedule, he said.
"Actually, the LGRD in cooperation with the Election Commission is working to complete the delimitation with GIS system," Sohul Hussain said.
