The prosecution demanded Monday capital punishment to accused Razakar commander Mobarak Hossain of Akhaura in Brahmanbaria, reports UNB.
They demanded the punishment to accused Mobarak, saying they have been able to 'prove beyond any reasonable doubt' his crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971 in collaboration with the Pakistan occupation army.
The prosecution came up with the demand before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 while closing its summing-up arguments with law-points in the case, exhausting two days.
With the detained accused Mobarak in the dock, the prosecution urged the tribunal that there was no scope of showing any leniency to the accused for his 'heinous' crimes during the Liberation War in 1971, particularly storming the Kalimandir in Brahmnanbaria and turning it into 'Razakar Manjil' which hurt the religious sentiments of the minority community.
Acting Chief Prosecutor Syed Haider Ali and prosecutor Shahidur Rahman made the wrapping-up arguments.
The prosecution arguments over, Mizanul Islam, the newly-appointed defence counsel for Mobarak, made sweeping remarks on the prosecution case that his client faces, terming it 'stinky, rotten and make over'.
The defence counsel will submit formal wrapping-up arguments on his case today (Tuesday), rebutting the prosecution submission.
During the day's proceedings, the three-member tribunal, headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim, came down heavily on the investigation officer (IO) of the case as he acted casually instead of with professional zeal in search of the bona fide document of the list of Razakars in Brahmanbaria.
