The decision to reopen all public universities and colleges in six divisional cities is likely to come out tomorrow (Monday) at a meeting between education adviser and vice-chancellors of 27 public universities of the country.
Sources said that education adviser Ayub Quadri has already invited the vice-chancellors to sit together for sharing ideas and reviewing the overall situation of the universities whether the campuses can be reopened very soon.
When contacted, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University SMA Faiz told the FE that he is preparing to attend the VCs’ meeting with the education adviser.
"I am trying to know everything about the August-20 and later incidents by holding repeated meetings with teachers and all hall provosts as I was abroad during the turmoil at DU", Faiz said.
He will also hold a meeting with all hall provosts, faculty deans, institute directors and department chairmen today (Sunday) to discuss the latest situation at the university.
Faiz, however, declined to make any comment on whether he will ask the government to reopen the university immediately or not.
On the other hand, five to six army personnel led by major Hafiz in plainclothes beat five staff of DU Kabi Jashim Uddin Hall Saturday afternoon as the hall employees couldn't identity the pictures of some unruly students who beat up an army man in front of Aziz Super Market at Shahbagh in the city August 21.
The wanted students are Angel, Shamol, Anam, Roni and Rumel of Kabi Jashim Uddin Hall of DU.
