The defence in the trial of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury continued on Sunday their part of hearing on the appeal filed by the former BNP lawmaker from Chittagong against the death sentence given to him by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, reports BSS.
Advocate SM Shahjahan, counsel for Chowdhury, argued on depositions and cross examinations of fourth and fifth prosecution witnesses, Gourango Singha and Prafulla Ranjan Singha.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam was present at the court for the state.
The ICT-1 sentenced Chowdhury to death on October 1, 2013, and he lodged appeal against the tribunal order on October 29 of the same year.
Meanwhile, the defence in the trial of Bagerhat Razakar trio Sheikh Sirajul Haque alias Siraj Master, Khan Akram Hossain, and Abdul Latif Talukder, concluded on Sunday their arguments at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chairman of the three-member panel of ICT-1, adjourned the hearing till June 23. The prosecution is scheduled to submit their rebuttal against the arguments that the defence has placed on that day.
A total of 32 prosecution witnesses, including the investigation officer, testified against the trio, whereas five defence witnesses submitted their depositions in support of them.
The ICT-1 issued warrant to arrest them on June 10, 2014, and Latif was nabbed by police on that very day. Akram was arrested on June 20 and Siraj on July 21.
The ICT-1 on November 5, 2014, indicted the trio and framed seven charges of crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile,The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 set on Sunday July 26 for submitting formal charges against 12 alleged Razakar leaders from Jessore, reports BSS.
The 12 are former Jamaat MP Mawlana Sakhawat Hossain, Ibrahim Hossain, Md Billal Hossain, Sheikh Md Mujibur Rahman, Md A Aziz Sarder, Qazi Ohidur Islam alias Qazi Wahidur Salam, Md Aziz Sarder, Lutfor Morol, Abdul Khalek Morol, Md Akram Hossain, Ojihar Morol and Moshiar Rahman.
Of them, Sakhawat, Billal, Akram and Ojihar are in police custody. Sakhawat was interrogated by the ICT probe body on January 22.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chairman of the three-member panel of ICT-1, set the date allowing a time plea from prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman.
