BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain blasted the government Thursday for appointing Chief Justice (CJ) of Bangladesh for political motives ignoring seniority, reports UNB.
On September 26, the government appointed Justice ABM Khairul Haque to Chief Justice reportedly superceding two senior judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
President M Zillur Rahman administered the oath of office of the new CJ Khairul Haque Thursday.
Addressing a discussion in the city to mark the 31st founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dol, BNP Secretary General Delwar Hossain said there is a motive behind appointing the Chief Justice violating seniority.
He said the appointment was given violating the seniority for working in favour of Awami League (AL) in the next general elections. In fact, AL is hatching a conspiracy of vote rigging in the election, he added.
Mr Delwar said people are not foolish now.
He said Bangladesh is liberal in religious aspects and presently people remain at a tough situation.
The BNP secretary general further said tougher situation might be faced in the days ahead so all will have to take united preparation imbued with the ideal of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to forge movement under the leadership of Khaleda Zia.
Presided over by Ulema Dol President Abdul Malek, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by MK Anwar MP, Prof MA Mannan, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Abdus Salam and Masud Talukder.
