BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain Tuesday demanded complete withdrawal of the ban on politics, lifting of the state of emergency, and release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia, reports UNB.
"In fact, the ban on indoor politics has not yet been withdrawn. Politics must be open in districts, upazilas and unions. Otherwise, it would not be acceptable to the people," he told reporters at his NAM apartment.
About the locked BNP central office, Delwar said he could not understand why the office was still kept under lock and key.
However, he said the remarks made by the police and the Law Adviser in this regard were not correct.
He said those who wanted to split the party did not belong to BNP. They were trying to split the BNP at the behest of certain quarters, he said, adding, "BNP belongs to us."
Delwar again asked the government why he was not allowed to attend the office as BNP secretary general while leaders and workers of other parties attended their respective offices without government permission.
In reply to a question, he said former Finance Minister and party standing committee member Saifur Rahman did not intend to join politics at this moment on his health ground.
