BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain has strongly criticised the ruling Awami League (AL) for disowning its student and youth wings as the people were fed up with the 'misdeeds and repression' of Chhatra League and Jubo League, reports UNB.
"We are scared at Awami League disowning its cadres," he said and posed a question why the ruling party wanted to shun responsibility of the wrongdoings of its front organisations. "People will not accept it."
Chhatra League and Jubo League engaged in tender manipulations and terrorism in different parts of the country are widely reported in the media.
Delwar was speaking at the concluding discussion on 'Role of BNP Grassroots Union Representative Meeting' of Dhaka Division at the city's Mohanagar Natya Mancha Tuesday. Party's chairperson Khaleda Zia attended the meet.
Representatives from six districts of the Dhaka division attended the event that continued over five hours from 10:30am.
Delwar said it was no denying the fact that Chhatra League and Jubo League were the offshoots of Awami League. Failing to control the notorious cadres of Chhatra League and Jubo League, Awami League was now disowning them.
The BNP secretary general called upon the party followers and people of all sections to take preparation for anti-government movement under the leadership of Khaleda Zia to save the country from the 'autocratic rule'.
He said the country was now in the grip of infamous 'Borgi' rule. If the trend continues people would find existence of none but Awami Leaguers.
Delwar refuted the Awami League general secretary's claim that BNP was capitalising the electricity, gas and water crisis to divert the trial of war criminals. He said BNP was focusing the sufferings of the people in the absence of power, gas and water and failure of the government to mitigate the woes.
He referred to the situation in judiciary. He said it was really bad, tarnishing the image of judiciary. He called upon the judges to free themselves from undue interference of the government and uphold the dignity of the judiciary.
