Delwar seeks lifting of emergency, ban on indoor politics across country

As their party headquarters remained off-limits, new BNP secretary general Khandoker Delwar Hossain Wednesday said they would not go for any discussion with the "expelled" leaders about opening the office as they "don't belong to the party anymore", reports UNB.
"Mannan Bhuiyan does not belong to BNP, so he has no legal basis to poke his nose into the matter of opening the party office," he told reporters at his NAM residence in the city.
Asked about the comment of expelled BNP joint secretary general Ashraf Hossain that they were genuine BNP and that is why the police did not allow them to enter the party office, Delwar said: "He could not say this as he was expelled earlier by the party chairperson."
Saying that lifting the ban on indoor politics only in Dhaka is not enough, he urged the caretaker government to withdraw restrictions on indoor politics and emergency across the country.
Responding to a query, he said that after holding discussion among the party leaders they would decide whether they would go to court for opening the sealed office of the immediate-past ruling party.
About Election Commission's invitation letter for dialogue, he said the EC has no jurisdiction to determine the leadership of BNP. He expressed the hope that they would get the EC's letter on electoral reforms as the genuine BNP.
"We have expelled party's office secretary Mofikul Islam Tripti for his anti-BNP activities and assistant office secretary Rizvee Ahmed will act as office secretary," he said about the latest expulsion of a dissident.
