Delwar urges PM to behave democratically

BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain Saturday termed Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina's remarks over the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office hours as narrow-mindedness, reports UNB.
Sheikh Hasina Friday reportedly mentioned that Leader of the Opposition starts her office from 9 pm and stays there until 1am or 2am.
Talking to the journalists at the late President Ziaur Rahman's Mazar premises, Delwar said they had never raised question where, when and what the PM does.
On Khaleda Zia's residence, Delwar said the present Cabinet took the decision 'politically to serve notice' upon Khaleda Zia to leave her Dhaka cantonment residence. "So, BNP will face the matter politically."
He termed as falsehood Hasina's allegation that Ziaur Rahman had not given her permission to hold Milad Mahfil at Dhanmondi 32 residence after her return to Bangladesh in 1981.
Delwar urged Hasina to behave democratically.
Earlier, Delwar placed wreath at Zia's Mazar and offered Fateha marking the release of BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas from jail. Mirza Abbas was arrested on June 27 and released on bail on October 4.
Leaders of the party Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, Fazlul Haque Milon, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Abdus Salam were present, among others, on the occasion.
Meanwhile, addressing a discussion meeting Saturday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir said there is no time to stay at home; all will have to wage united movement against what he alleged the government's undemocratic behaviour.
Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad arranged the discussion at the National Press Club marking the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day'.
Mr Alamgir said the country's independence and sovereignty were protected through 'sipahi-janata' revolution on November 7 in 1975. Ziaur Rahman had introduced multi-party democracy in the country, he added.
Democracy was restored following the mass movement in 1990, he said, adding that now the time has come to resist the "Present fascist government."
Presided over by Professor Sadrul Amin, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by BNP chairperson's Adviser Shawkat Mahmud and BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Meanwhile, Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal formed a human chain in front of National Press Club from at 11 am Saturday in protest against what they said cordoning Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office by police and RAB personnel.
They demanded withdrawal of false cases filed against Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko.
Speaking at the human chain programme, Opposition Chief Whip Zainal Abdin Farooque said the AL government would not succeed to destroy Khaleda Zia and her family members by cordoning her office and filing false cases against her two sons.
He said the 'oust-government movement' would be intensified as much as the ruling AL resorts to repression on BNP leaders and activists.
