Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday the demand for army deployment in local government elections is illogical, reports BSS.
"BNP did not deploy army in any election when the party was in power...Now BNP's demand for army deployment in local government polls is illogical," he said.
The AL leader made the comments while talking to journalists after inspecting the activities of a mobile court in the city's Hatirjheel area. Quader said the Election Commission is in the charge of holding elections and the government is ready to extend all cooperation to it.
Meanwhile, Awami League Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said on Tuesday people of the country did not want to see BNP in power again.
"BNP has already proved that their party as a corrupt party and people do not want to see 'Hawa Bhabhan' from where Tareque Zia collected extortion from businessmen, contractors and different professional bodies," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a delegate meeting of city and district units of Awami League on Galyamary martyrdom premises in the city.
Criticising BNP leader Khandakar Mossarraf's demand of army deployment, Hanif said the EC has already rejected their proposal.
