The Democratic Left Alliance (DLA) will organise a national convention in Dhaka on May 23, demanding due share of water from 54 common rivers, including the Teesta, reports UNB.
The national convention was called as part of its ongoing movement demanding due share of water from 54 common rivers, including the Teesta and establishing coordinated water management, said Abdus Sattar, coordinator of Democratic Left Alliance, at a press briefing in its Topkhana Road office Wednesday.
He informed that the convention would also protest against the 'water aggression of India' and what he said the subservient foreign policy of the Bangladesh government.
"The government has failed to realise our demands due to its subservient foreign policy," said Abdus Sattar.
The convention will be attended by water experts from home and abroad, professionals, leaders of Democratic Left Alliance, affected farmers and fishermen inhabiting in the Teesta river area.
The leader of the DLA, comprising eight left parties, said the Teesta Barrage project has become inactive as India has been creating obstacles to the undisrupted flow of the Teesta River.
