Democracy triumphed thru\\\' Jan 5 polls, says Nasim

SYLHET, Dec 27 (agencies): Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mohammad Nasim said here today that those who came up with derogatory remarks against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would bring ruination for themselves.

"Bangabandhu is like the Himalayas...none can defame him with any derogatory remarks...rather they will cause destruction to themselves," said the minister.

Md Nasim, also a member of the Awami League (AL) presidium, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting with physicians jointly organised by Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Bangladesh Medical Association, Sylhet unit at Osmani Medical College auditorium here in the city.

Amatul Kibria Keya Chowdhury, MP, former Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation (CCC) and president of Sylhet City AL Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, Director General of Health Services Dr Deen Mohammad Nurul Huq, Director of the college Brig Gen Dr M Abdus Sabur Mia spoke at the meeting with principal of the college Dr Murshed Ahmed Chowdhury in the chair.

He gave assurance that a female hostel at Osmani Medical College would soon be established and the latest equipment for treatment of cancer patients would also be provided to the college.

"I will recommend to the Prime Minister (PM) to convert the college into a university and I hope she will declare the college as university," he said.

The minister asked the doctors to be sincere with their duties.

Nasim said the country's democracy triumphed through the January-5 election.
