"We--all the political parties of this country--have got united on the basis of one-point demand as we want the resignation of this regime and a free and transparent election under a non-partisan neutral poll-time government," he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a seminar on 'A Democratic Future for Bangladesh and the Indo-Pacific Strategy' organised by the party at a city hotel on Monday.
He said he is confident that they will realise their demands through the united movement with the help of the people.
"The people of Bangladesh have always won through united efforts and peaceful movements. We believe that the people of Bangladesh will be able to restore democracy through a peaceful movement this time as well," he said.
BNP standing committee member and its international relations committee chairman Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presented the keynote paper at the programme.
Slamming the government for repressing the opposition leaders and activists, Fakhrul said the nation is passing through the most critical time.
He said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, who struggled throughout her entire life for the cause of democracy, is now critically ill without proper treatment due to extreme vengeance of the ruling party.
"Our party's around 700 people, including three former MPs, have been subjected to enforced disappearance. Our 4.5 million people have been facing false cases. Many of us are being sentenced before the elections so that they can't participate in the polls," the BNP leader said.
FE report adds: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has warned the government of resisting its move to hold a one-sided election this time.
"Defying bullets, teargas and sticks, people will fight jointly this time to ensure a free, fair and participatory election," said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
She was addressing a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters on Monday.
"The Awami League fears to hold free, fair and participatory elections. The party knows it full well that it won't win such elections and its existence will be jeopardised."
He accused the government of conducting a combing operation to arrest BNP leaders and followers ahead of the party's grand rally on October 28 in the capital.
Mr Rizvi alleged that the government was spreading falsehood against BNP chairman Tarique Rahman and other family members of Ziaur Rahman.
He said there are no personal accounts on social media platform of Dr Zubaida Rahman, the wife of BNP chairperson Tarique Rahman and his daughter barrister Zaima Rahman.
Meanwhile, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has greeted the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja and Bijoya Dashami.
"I wish the Hindu community's continued peace and happiness on the occasion of Durga Puja," he said in a statement issued on Monday.
Mr Fakhrul said Durga Puja has a special place in the history of Bangalees.
"People of Bangladesh irrespective of their religions coexist in peace and harmony. Communal harmony is a part of our national heritage. We're all Bangladeshis - this is our pride and identity."
