Deposition of witnesses begins

RAJSHAHI, Sept 23 (UNB): Deposition of witnesses began Sunday in the case filed against six Rajshahi University (RU) teachers for violation of the Emergency Powers Rules during the campus violence in late August.
On the first day, Judge of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court for Speedy Trial SM Fazlul Karim Chowdhury recorded the deposition of plaintiff of the case Motihar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Khondoker Ferdous Ahmed.
All the six accused of the case were present in the court during the deposition of witnesses. They are former RU Vice Chancellor M Saidur Rahman Khan, RU Progressive Teachers' Alliance convener M Abdus Sobhan of Applied Physics Department, Moloy Kumar Bhowmik of Management Department, and Dulal Chandra Biswas, Syed Selim Reza Newton and Abdullah Al Mamun of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Saidur Rahman Khan, Abdus Sobhan and Moloy Kumar Bhowmik on August 23 while the three others surrendered before a court here on September 5.
The OC of Motihar police station filed the case on August 24 and charge sheet was submitted against the teachers on September 2.
