Bangladesh and Vietnam have agreed to hold a meeting of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) in early 2008, the year when the 35th year of bilateral relations will be celebrated.
The agreement was reached when the outgoing Vietnamese Ambassador in Bangladesh Ngo Van Hoa made a farewell call on Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury in the city Monday, reports UNB.
The two sides also agreed to cooperate in multilateral fora like the United Nations (UN), Asian Regional Forum and Asian Cooperation Dialogue.
"I thanked him for his service to Bangladesh-Vietnam relations, and both countries today enjoy a very high level of cooperation. Vietnam is a shining example of how a nation can successfully struggle to protect its sovereignty and independence, and use the same spirit to achieve its development goals," said the adviser while speaking to the media after the meeting.
"We would like to see Vietnam play a lead role in the international arena that they deserve to," the adviser further stated.
Ambassador Ngo Van Hoa is leaving Dhaka on retirement after serving four and a half years as the envoy of Vietnam.
