Bangladesh will raise several outstanding issues including demarcation of 6.50-kilometre boundary, exchange of enclaves, unfettered movement through Tin Bigha corridor and stopping killing of innocent Bangladeshi citizens by the BSF at the Home Secretary level talks scheduled to be held in New Delhi between tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday (August 3).
Home Secretary Abdul Karim leaves Dhaka for the Indian capital today (Wednesday) to lead a five-member Bangladesh team to the talks. Earlier, the seventh Home Secretary level meeting was held in Dhaka on August 24 last year.
At the talks, Dhaka will press for implementation of 1974 Mujib-Indira Land Boundary Agreement.
Bangladesh ratified the agreement in 1974, but India has not yet ratified it leaving 6.50 kilometres land boundary undemarcated and exchange of enclaves and lands in adverse possessions unsettled, official sources told UNB.
They said although Bangladesh handed over Berubari to India, but India did not hand over the Tin Bigha corridor to Bangladesh in accordance with the 1974 agreement.
At the Delhi meeting, Dhaka will seek 24-hour movement by Bangladesh nationals through the corridor.
Besides, some burning issues like ending the killing of innocent Bangladeshi civilians by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the common border, handing over Bangladeshi terrorists hiding in India, human trafficking and smuggling will be raised by the Bangladesh side at the meeting.
