NARSINGDI, Feb 13 (UNB): Train communications of Dhaka with Chittagong and Sylhet were restored early Friday after seven hours of suspension following derailment of a train at Ghorashal railway station in Palash upazila.
Sahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Palash Police Station, said two bogies of Sylhet-bound 'Kalni Express' veered off the tracks at the railway station around 7:30pm Thursday, halting train movement of the Dhaka-Chittagong-Sylhet route.
10-12 passengers of the two bogies were also injured in the accident and they were rushed to a local hospital, said OC. However, the train services on the two routes resumed after a relief train salvaged the bogies around 3.00am, added the OC. Meanwhile, In Brahmanbaria an express train derailed at Puniyaut near Brahmanbaria Railway Station Friday afternoon. Witnesses said the locomotive and two bogies of the Dhaka-bound 'Chattala Express' train from Chittagong veered off the tracks in the area around 4pm.
Being panicked, passengers tried to get down from the train hurriedly, leaving 7-8 of the injured.
However, trains were running through the down line, said railway sources.
A relief train started for the spot from Akhaura Railway Junction to salvage the derailed train, said the station master of Brahmanbaria Railway Station.
