A delegation of Dhaka University (DU) syndicate headed by the Vice-chancellor Sunday met Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed and discussed with him the overall situation of the university, reports UNB.
Army Chief Moeen U Ahmed and Education Adviser Ayub Quadri were present at the meeting held at the CA's office in the afternoon.
They requested the head of caretaker government to take steps for providing division to the detained DU teachers in jail.
Three teachers of the university are now in jail following cases filed on charges of provoking students into breaking the emergency rules during the August 20-22 student unrest on the campus.
"There was a very important meeting with the Chief Adviser. We have requested the CA to ensure getting division by the DU teachers. We also requested him to ensure 'sympathetic' behaviour with the arrested students," DU Vice-chancellor SMA Faiz told reporters after the meeting.
Faiz said there was also discussion about the overall campus situation and the reopening of the university.
Three DU teachers - Sadrul Amin and Anwar Hossain, respectively president and general secretary of Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA); and Harun-ar-Rashid, dean of Social Sciences Faculties -- are now in jail.
Sadrul Amin was sent to jail after he had surrendered in a court Sunday. Another DU teacher, Nim Chandra Bhoumik, provost of Jagannath Hall who was also charge sheeted with the arrested teachers, has been absconding since the filing of the case.
