DMP bans carrying firearms, holding rallies around JS

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on carrying firearms, explosives and other harmful objects as well as holding any kind of rally and procession around Sangsad Bhaban to ensure smooth functioning of the 5th session of the 10th parliament, reports UNB.
The 5th session of the current parliament will begin at 4pm Monday.
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia slapped the restriction under the Section 28 and 29 of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1976 for ensuring 'peace and discipline' in and around Sangsad Bhaban so that the 5th session of the current parliament remains 'uninterrupted', it said.
The restriction will come into effect at Sunday midnight and remain in force until the prorogation of the 5th JS session, said a DMP press release Saturday.
The restricted areas are Mahakhali crossing of Mymensingh Road to Bangla Motor crossing, western part of Bangla Motor link road to Saarc Fountain at Karwanbazar crossing, eastern part of Panthapath to Farmgate via Green Road link road, Shyamoli crossing of Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi 16 (old 27) link road, Rokeya Sarani link road to Bijoy Sarani Parjatan crossing via old 9th Division (airplane) crossing, eastern part of Indira Road to Manik Miah Avenue's western part and restricted area of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and all the roads and lanes in the area.
On December 31, the President summoned the session of the current parliament exercising the power bestowed upon him as per Article 72 (1) of the constitution.
The President will address the first session of the new calendar year.
