Don’t harass activists in central office

Voicing concern that their party men cannot freely go to their central office as police kept on arresting them, BNP sought Tuesday a positive response from the government to smoothly carry out their official activities in the Nayapaltan headquarters, reports UNB.
BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu in a statement said, "After the reopening of the office, BNP expects the government to stop arresting and harassing opposition leaders and activists and ensure their safety so that they can smoothly carry out official activities in the party headquarters. BNP also wants the government to respond positively."
Bulu said though the BNP's Nayapaltan central office was reopened after three months of closure, party leaders and activists fear to visit it as 13 leaders and activists were arrested in the last three days.
He also urged the government to ensure a congenial atmosphere so that the opposition-backed candidates can freely carry out their election campaigns for the city polls.
Mr Bulu sought the government's efforts to allay fears about arrest of opposition activists by the law enforcers and release their detained leaders and activists.
