Don't bow to pressure from Oikya Front

Awami League (AL) called upon on Saturday the Election Commission (EC) not to give in to any pressure from Jatiya Oikya Front.
"Oikya Front, BNP and Jamaat will raise different illogical demands to the EC. And we have requested them (EC) not to succumb to those demands," AL Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak told the media after meeting with EC secretary Helaluddin Ahmed at Agargaon Nirbachan Bhaban in the city.
"We have also requested the Election Commission to remain cautious about 'nomination business'. We expect the commission to hold a free, fair and neutral election," he said.
They (AL) informed the EC that the people of the country are now in an election mood, he added.
Mr Nanak said the agitation in front of the BNP's central office on the day was nothing but an outburst against 'nomination business'.
He observed that the people (BNP men) who failed to do such business were now trying to make issue before the general election slated for December 30.
"Leaving any 'question mark' on the activities of the EC by any quarter means to tarnish the whole electoral process or put a question mark on it."
Replying to a question, he said the AL would not put any pressure on the EC.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the 'mother of democracy' in the country, he said, adding that the Hasina government was extending all-out cooperation to the EC for holding a free, free and transparent election.
Party's organising secretary Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury, among others, was present.
