Blue panel of Dhaka University teachers, backed by the ruling Awami League, swept the Senate elections held at the university's Nawab Ali Chowdhury building on Tuesday, reports UNB.
Blue panel bagged 32 votes out of a total of 35 votes, whereas BNP-backed White panel secured only 3 votes. Elected teachers will be valid as Senate members for next three years.
The voting procedure started at 9:00 am and ended at 2:00 pm on Tuesday.
Treasurer of University of Dhaka Prof. Momtaz Uddin was in-charge of the election as commissioner and he announced the results around 4.30 pm.
The DU Senate is the highest policymaking body of the university. The total number of Senate members is 105. Of which 35 seats are reserved for the teachers.
