All the residential halls of Dhaka University were reopened Tuesday as the university resumes its classes on October 28 after remaining closed for long 61 days.
The unscheduled closure of the university followed a student unrest over a trifling matter involving students and several army personnel on the varsity playground on August 20 last.
Many of the male and female students were seen entering their respective halls bag and baggage on the first day of reopening of the dormitories.
The authorities have set up check-posts at all hall gates to check identity card of every student and then let them get in, so that no outsider can enter the halls. The measure has been taken as the authorities are determined to ensure a safe campus.
While talking to the press Tuesday, DU Vice-Chancellor SMA Faiz sought cooperation of all including teachers and students of the university to maintain a congenial atmosphere on the campus.
In reply to a query, he said reopening of the campus is not linked to the matter of release of any jailed teachers of the university.
Faiz made the observation as many of the teachers of white (BNP-backed) and blue (AL-backed) panels have already expressed their suspicion that classes may not be held properly if the captive DU teachers are not released before resuming classes.
On the other hand, classes of Chittagong University and Islamic University will resume today (Wednesday) while classes of Rajshahi University and Jagannath University will resume on October 27 and 28 respectively.
