RAJSHAHI, Aug 26 (UNB): Former deputy minister for Land Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, who now faces a series of cases along with his family and friends, was produced in a court here Sunday in a case of patronising militancy.
Dulu appeared before Rajshahi District Additional Sessions Judge's Court-3 at about 12:45 pm and Judge Abu Saleh Sheikh Mohammad Jahirul Haque later fixed September 25 as next date for hearing in the case, sources said.
Ayub Ali, an inhabitant of Polashi village under Bagmara Upazila, filed the case with Bagmara police on April 1 this year against 30 persons, including Dulu and some other top Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders.
Former telecommunications minister Aminul Haque and former lawmaker Nadim Mostafa are among them.
Dulu and 12 others are now in jail while the rest 17, including Aminul and Nadim Mostafa, are on the run.
The three regional stalwarts of the immediate-past ruling party have already been awarded longer terms of imprisonment, along with their party colleagues and associates, in some other cases involving such serious crimes during their rule.
Sub-inspector Shakil of Bagmara thana submitted charge-sheet before a Magistrate's Court in Rajshahi on April 23 in this case, now that countrywide drives against serious crime and corruption are underway in the interim period under the caretaker government.
