The Durga Puja holidays have been extended by another day, according to Mahfuz Alam, special assistant to the chief advisor, reports bdnews24.com.
He said this to the media at the Dhakeshwari National Temple on Tuesday.
"For a long time, Hindu devotees have been demanding an extension of the Durga Puja holiday as they celebrate it from Sashthi [the sixth day of the festival] to Dashami [the 10th day of the festival]. This year, the days before Dashami are Friday and Saturday," Mahfuz said.
"So the government has considered extending the public holiday by another day on Thursday [Oct 10], so that they have more time to celebrate the festival."
"As such, the puja holiday has been extended by a day. There will be a holiday on Thursday for the puja. We will issue a notice."
"There are domestic and foreign conspiracies in the country and the government is working to resist them. The government is active in apprehending criminals. No one involved in conspiracies will be spared. A message to those who are trying to destabilise the country - the current interim government stands by everyone," he added.
