Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Tuesday protesting the attack on the vice-chancellor's official residence, report agencies.

The association held the human chain programme from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Dramatist Ramendu Majumdar, who also joined the human chain, said the students' demand to reform the quota system is logical but the attack on the VC's house is totally unexpected.

The attack was pre-planned, he said.

The leaders of DUTA also claimed university students are not behind the attack and the attack was carried out in a planned way.

Prof Sadeka Halim of DU's Sociology Department, also dean of the Social Sciences Faculty, urged the authorities to bring the attackers to book after identifying them.

The DU teachers also provided moral support to the protesters.

The association also declared to wear black badges from 11:00 am to 11:59 am on April 12 suspending all their academic activities including classes.

Besides, the DUTA leaders invited journalists to visit the VC's residence on Wednesday around 11:00 am as they can show the video footage of the attack.

The teachers also assured the agitating students that they will request the prime minister for a logical reform of quota system.
