Early execution of CHT peace accord stressed

The Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission (CHTC) recommended Saturday effective and immediate steps for implementation of unimplemented basic parts of the CHT Peace Agreement expeditiously for restoration of a lasting peace in the country's hill region, reports BSS.
Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club, CHTC co-chairperson Advocate Sultana Kamal placed 8-point recommendation to the government for a lasting peace in the region.
The recommendations include proper trial of the incidents of clashes between different sections of people in the hill region, conducting a neutral and effective investigation expeditiously, withdrawal of the cases filed against hill people and an initiative for deployment of a combined police force of hill and Bangalee members and formation of the Village Defence Force for maintaining law and order in the CHT region.
Members of the CHTC Swapan Adnan, Barrister Sarah Hossain and Dr Iftekharuzzaman also spoke at the press conference.
