The Election Commission (EC) will today (Monday) decide whether the maiden polls to the newly formed Dhaka City Corporation South (DCCS) and Dhaka City Corporation North (DCCN) will be held under the existing commission, reports BSS.
"The EC will take final decision today regarding holding of polls in the two parts of split DCC," Election Commissioner M Sohul Hussein told newsmen at his office Sunday.
"After taking the decision, the EC will inform LGRD Ministry of the matter through letter," he said.
EC commissioners Sohul Hussein and Brig Gen (retd) M Shakhawat Hossain said earlier that it was not possible for the commission to hold DCC polls within the stipulated 90 days, as tenure of the present commission will expire before the time.
About their previous stand to hold the split DCC polls, Sohul said, "Whatever was said earlier regarding the matter was personal."
"Chief Election Commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda was abroad then. He returned home on Saturday. Now the EC will take final decision about holding the split DCC elections," he added.
