The Election Commission (EC) has unveiled the draft list of 42,618 polling stations for the upcoming 13th Jatiaya Sangsad (JS) election.
Compared with the 2024 national election, the number of polling stations has increased by 468.
"With an average of 3,000 voters at each station, the total number of polling stations has been fixed at 42, 618", said EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed while talking to reporters at EC headquarters, Nirbachan Bhaban, in the capital's Agargaon area on Wednesday.
According to the draft list, there will be 2,44,046 polling booths under the 42,618 polling stations for the next election, including 1,14,939 for male voters and 1,29,107 booths for females.
The EC Secretary said one booth will be set up for per 600 male voters, one booth for per 500 female voters.
Mr Ahmed also said the list of the polling stations would be finalised on October 20.
According to the latest EC tally, the country has 12,61,61,201 voters, including 6,39,28,809 males, 6,23,06,177 females and 1,185 transgender ones.
The EC official said: "The Election Commission will receive claims and complaints regarding the draft list of polling stations until September 25, address the complaints by October 12, and finalise the list on October 20".
The EC official said the number of the polling stations was 42,150 in the 12th parliamentary election held on January 7, 2024.
