The Election Commission (EC) has enlisted 2,32,465 new voters of whom 1,05,590 are first time voters in the recent voters update drive carried out for the next Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) polls.
Deputy Election Commissioner Biswas Lutfar Rahman told BSS that a total of 38,13,791 voters are enlisted excluding 600 dead voters in the recent update process while highest number of voters are enlisted in Ward Number 45.
He said the number of voters in Ward Number 45 has reached 29,375 from 24,045 voters. The lowest numbers of voters were enlisted in Ward Number 83 where only 414 new voters were added to the existing 23,951 after the update.
The processes of scrutiny of the new voters are going on, he added.
The EC sources said 12 mouzas of five Union Parishad (UP) under Uttara, Gulshan and Lalbagh police stations have been included in the DCC areas.
Voters of Purakoer, Shailpur, Dakshinkhan and Faidabad of Dakshinkhan UP and Baunia, Ranabhola, Rasadia and Masumpur of Harirampur UP of Uttara police station and Samair and Bhola under Satarkul UP and Bhatara of Gulshan police station and Charkarangi Mouza under Lalbagh police station will be eligible to cast their votes in the next DCC polls.
The EC sources said the LGRD Ministry requested the Commission recently to take necessary measures for holding elections in the newly included 12 mouzas.
However the EC sources said it would clarify the issue with the Local Government Ministry whether these newly attached areas will be included in the DCC's existing 91 wards or there will be new wards.
Election Commissioner Muhammad Sohul Hossain told the news agency that the DCC elections would be held under the old delimited areas.
