The Election Commission (EC) is going to submit a draft proposal-suggesting ban on front organisations of the political parties to the government soon.
Commissioner Sohul Hussain said this while talking to reporters at his office in the city Tuesday, adding that the EC would also seek amendment to the Political Parties Ordinance, 1978 towards that end, reports UNB.
"The government will finalise the proposal," he added.
Asked about the voting rights of the stranded Pakistanis, Sohul said they would be enrolled as and when the issue of their citizenship is settled. "It involved the humanitarian side."
Some of their parents applied for going to Pakistan even though they were born in Bangladesh. "The Election Commission will write to the government for resolving the problem and considering their citizenship… If they come after being citizens (of the country) they will be voters," he added.
Replying to a query, Sohul said residents of Bangladesh enclaves surrounded by Indian territories would be enrolled as voters. But it has not yet been decided how they will go to the enclaves. The matter will be discussed at the inter-ministerial meeting.
