Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said the Election Commission (EC) is fully prepared to conduct the presidential election at any time, although the date has yet to be finalised.
"We held preliminary discussions regarding the presidential election. No date has been fixed yet," he said.
The CEC made the remarks while talking to reporters after a meeting with Acting Speaker Kaysar Kamal, at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) premises on Tuesday.
He said the meeting focused on the procedural aspects of the presidential election and described it as a preliminary discussion.
"We discussed the procedural aspects in detail. It was a preliminary discussion, and no tentative date has been set. You will be informed in due course. Our entire discussion focused on the presidential election," he added.
He said the CEC would serve as the Returning Officer for the presidential election, while all election-related activities would be conducted from the Election Commission headquarters. He also clarified that the presence or absence of a parliamentary session would have no bearing on the electoral process.
Mr Nasir Uddin also said the commission aims to complete the presidential election as early as possible, given the significant responsibilities that lie ahead, including the conduct of local government elections.
Responding to a question from reporters, he said the meeting focused exclusively on the presidential election, with no discussion on parliamentary constituencies or any other regional matters.
