EC scuppers BNP demands for army deployment

Ruling out the BNP's demand, the Election Commission (EC) Thursday said the army would not be deployed during the upcoming by-polls in Bhola-3 constituency, reports UNB.
Talking to the newsmen at his office, Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain said there is no necessity for deployment of army in the by-polls scheduled for April 24.
He said the Commission does not usually deploy army in any by-election except under special circumstances.
The Election Commi-ssioner also said the officials including Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Officer-in-charge (OC) in the constituency would be changed before polling, so that nobody can question the credibility of the election.
