The Election Commission (EC) has sought an allocation of Tk 950 million as election expenditure for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and other elections, officials said.
EC secretary Md Sirajul Islam had recently sent a letter to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Finance (MoF), seeking funds.
A ministry official said they had received a request letter from the EC which had sought funds for holding the DCC and other polls in the revised budget of the current fiscal year (FY).
"It will not be possible to hold the Dhaka City Corporation polls right now due to disputes over its boundary. But the elections may be held in the current FY 2014-15 if the boundary disputes are settled by the government," a competent source said.
So, Tk 950 million would be needed for elections and other expenses along with funds sanctioned earlier, he added.
