The Election Commission (EC) will start preparing the voters' list in Dhaka from the last week of next month (October).
Meanwhile, the EC in a meeting today (Wednesday) approved a draft of its new recruitment rules with a provision making EC appointments transferable.
"We will start the task of making voters' list in Dhaka from the last week of next month. It could be started in the outskirts like Uttar Khan, Kamrangir Char and Dania," EC Secretary M Humayun Kabir told reporters at a press briefing this (Wednesday) afternoon, reports UNB.
Asked when the EC would start preparing the voters' list in Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) area, the Secretary said that could be known within a day or two.
He said that it would take more time to complete the voters' list of Dhaka than other places of the country.
The EC, Kabir said, would get 8000 laptops and other equipment by October 31, which would expedite the task of preparing the voters' list.
"We would get most of the laptops by October 15. Around 1000 laptops have already reached," he said. The EC is now working on voters' list in 30 places.
In the draft recruitment rules the provision has been made that any official could be posted to the secretariat or field offices and the appointments would be transferable, Kabir said.
He explained that there would be change in only designation not in rank if any official were transferred to secretariat from field office or to field office from secretariat.
EC has approved the draft of the new recruitment rules and it would be now sent to the Law Ministry for vetting and then to the Public Service Commission (PSC) and Establishment Ministry for completing other formalities.
