Electioneering reaching zenith in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Dec 19 (BSS): The entire district including the city and rural areas have turned into enthusiastic festive looks amid election fever as the electioneering has been reaching the peak in all six parliamentary constituencies.
The contesting candidates and their workers have been campaigning at days and nights amid sweeping cold wave. Former premier and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia made her campaigning here last night boosting the momentum.
Former premier and Grand Alliance chief Sheikh Hasina is likely to visit Rajshahi Monday next.
The candidates of the Mohajote, four-party alliance, different political parties and independent candidates and their workers have been visiting door to door, talking to the voters and seeking their votes.
Some of the voters are also asking the candidates about their future plans for development and solving the problems and saying that they would cast their votes for the committed and honest candidates having good moral character, good background and high educational qualifications.
A total of 28 candidates are finally contesting for the six parliamentary seats after withdrawal of the nomination papers though 56 submitted nominations initially.
Spot reports reveal that the election campaigns have already got momentum in both urban and rural areas, tea-stalls and public places and the same would reach its peak within the next couple of days.
According to the local people and sources, there might be bilateral and tri-lateral contests in the parliamentary constituencies here.
In Rajshahi-1 (Godagari-Tanore) seat, a bilateral contest might be between BNP led 4-Party Alliance candidate and former IGP Enamul Haque and AL- led Mohajote candidate Omar Faruque Chowdhury though Salah Uddin Bishwash of Bangladesh Kolyan Party is also in the race.
In Rajshahi-2 (Rajshahi City) constituency, the contest might remain confined to Fazley Hossain Badsha of AL-led Mohajote and former Rajshahi mayor Mijanur Rahman Minu of BNP led 4-Party Alliance though Akhteruzzaman Bablu of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, Enamul Haque of CPB and Sayeed Mahmud Ilias of Islami Andolan Bangladesh are also in the contest.
In Rajshahi-3 (Poba-Mohanpur) seat, a triangular contest might be among Ataur Rahman of Bangladesh Jamaate Islami, Meraj Uddin Mollah of AL-led Mohajote and Advocate Kabir Hossain of BNP though Abdul Hay (PDP) is also competing in the election.
In Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) constituency, similar situation might be among Engineer Enamul Haque (AL-led Mohajote), Abdul Gafur (BNP led 4-Party Alliance) and Sarder Amzad Hossain (Independent) though Zinnatul Islam Zinnah (National People's Party), Mohsin Pramanik (CPB) and Atiqur Rahman (BSD) are also in the race.
In Rajshahi-5 (Durgapur-Puthiya) seat, the contest might remain confined to Professor Nazrul Islam of BNP led 4-Party Alliance and Abdul Wadud Dara of AL-led Mohajote though Shafiul Azam (LDP), Abul Kalam Azad (CPB), Mokter Hossain (Bangladesh Tarikat Federation) and Shawkat Hossain (NPP) are also in the race.
In Rajshahi-6 (Bagha-Charghat) constituency, the main contest might also remain confined to AL-led Mohajote candidate Shahrier Alam and BNP led 4- Party Alliance contender Azizur Rahman though Nurul Islam (JSD) and Meshkawat Ahsan (Bikalpadhara Bangladesh) are also contesting in the election.
