BARISAL, Dec 3: Electioneering is yet to be started in Barisal region as the four-party alliance, is facing rebellion from nomination-deprived candidates.
After Eid and before the final date of withdrawal, the list of four-party alliances would be again revised and finalised and electioneering would be started in full swing only after withdrawal of the state of emergency, said local BNP sources.
In election 2001, the BNP led four-party alliance got 18 out of 23 seats in the national assembly while AL received rest five seats in Barisal division.
Eight out of 18 former lawmakers and ministers of the four party alliance government have deprived of getting nomination for election-2008 as announced until now, while two AL lawmakers of 2001 failed to get party nomination this time.
On Tuesday more than five hundred agitated BNP activists of Muladi upazila led by Abdus Shukkur Khan, Prof. Shariatullah, Mohsin Reza and Kazi Kamal, formed a human chain at the upazila town and demanded cancellation of the nomination of Begum Selima Rahman for Barisal-2 (Babuganj- Muladi).
However they demanded BNP nomination for Advocate Joynul Abedin, central BNP law affairs secretary and a man of Muladi, instead of Begum Selima Rahman.
Mosharref Hossain Shahjahan, former BNP lawmaker of Bhola-1, became independent candidate this time after being deprived of nomination against Andalib Rahman Partha, son of BJP chairman late Naziur Rahman Monju.
