Electoral rolls update after UZ polls

The Election Commission (EC) wants to begin updating the electoral rolls in May to include those eligible to become voter this year, reports bdnews24.com.
There is a provision to update the list in January every year but EC wants to start this year's update after the Upazila elections are over.
Photo voter list and national IDs are updated under the supervision of the EC's National Identity Registration Wing.
The list will be updated to add those who turned 18 in January, 2014 as well as those who could not be listed before.
Changes to the list are also made to account for transfers, corrections and deletion of voters who have passed away.
The update can be completed between May 15 and Dec 31, Election Commissioner Abdul Mobarak told the Chief Election Commissioner in an unofficial note.
The update will be planned accordingly, Additional Secretary Md Sirajul Islam of the EC Secretariat told the news agency.
"We have received a note," he said. "We are supposed to complete it in three stages. These proposals will be reviewed once it is presented in the commission's meeting.
