Ershad for stronger mass media to establish democracy

RANGPUR, March 17 (BSS): Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad has stressed the need for a stronger mass media in establishing and institutionalising democracy.

Terming journalists as the conscience of the society, he said advancement of the country would be accelerated and democracy strengthened when more newspapers and electronic media will come into being and work independently.

Ershad said this while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the leaders and executive committee members of Rangpur City Press Club (CPC) at his residence 'Polli Nibas' on Darshona area in the city Mondasy night, a press release said.

President of CPC Sharifuzzaman Bulu, vice-president Abedul Hafiz, general secretary Shakil Ahmed, joint secretary Humayun Kabir Manik, office secretary Mostafizur Rahman and publicity & sports Secretary Zitu Kabir attended the meeting.

Convener of the district unit of JP Mofazzal Hossain Master, convener of its city unit Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, member-secretary SM Yasser and senior leaders of the party were present in the meeting.

Ershad visited Mazida Khatun Degree College, Keranihat School & College, LGED Office, Deputy Commissioner's Office and Rangpur Medical College Hospital in the city on Tuesday.
