Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad urged on Monday the Election Commission to play a strong and neutral role in the upcoming city corporations elections billed for April 28, reports UNB.
Ershad, also the special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, made the call while addressing a training programme of the party's polling agents organised by Jatiya Party Dhaka North city unit in cooperation with Democracy International at his Banani office in the city.
"When BNP was in power, it had established misrule in the country in the name of democracy and that's why it's now on the verge of extinction," he said.
"BNP doesn't find its candidates to nominate. The BNP-backed candidates contesting the city elections are hardly known to anybody. So, we'll have to take advantage of that opportunity in the election," Ershad added.
