An eight-member delegation of the Committee on Development of the European Parliament will arrive in Dhaka tomorrow (Sunday) on a three-day visit.
Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Nirj Deva (UK) will lead the delegation, said an EU press release.
Four other MEPs in the delegation are Ms Franziska Keller (Verts/ALE/ Germ-any), Mr Niccolo Rinaldi (Italy), Mr Jean Lambert (UK) and Mr John Attard-Montalto (Malta).
The purpose of the visit is to discuss with policy makers in Bangladesh as well as with its international partners the overall impact of climate change and especially its impact on food security in the country.
To the European Union (EU), this issue is of high importance and the EU is committed to helping the countries in the front row of the battle regarding climate change.
"We are talking about real problems threatening real people. These people are alive today and they may be gone tomorrow unless we do something now. What we need is funds and not only talks," Mr Nirj Deva said in a statement.
During the visit, the delegation will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker of the Parliament, Food and Disaster Management Minister, Foreign Minister, Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Committees on Ministry of Food and Disaster Management, Ministry of Environment and Forest and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
The delegation will also hold meetings with country representatives of international organisations in Bangladesh and members of local civil society.
On November 2, the delegation will visit two EU-funded projects, Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP) and Vulnerable Group Development for Ultra-Poor (VGDUP) Progra-mme, in Sirajganj.
At the final stage of the visit on November 3, the delegation will address a press conference at BRAC Centre at 4:30pm.
