Progressive Students' Alliance (PSA) will enforce general strike on the Dhaka University (DU) campus July 15, if all evening courses at the university are not cancelled by July 14.
The leaders of PSA, a union of six left-leaning student organisations, announced the strike at a student solidarity rally on the DU campus Sunday noon.
"We are going for the strike, as the authorities are not retreating from their move to introduce evening courses even after strong protest by the students," PSA leader Biplob Mandol told the rally.
He said the PSA would never let the authorities do business in the name of evening courses at DU, claiming that all general students had supported the strike.
When contacted, Programme Director of the evening Master of Public Administration (MPA) Prof Akhter Hossain said nothing would be done against the will of students.
"We will finalise the decision on cancellation of the evening MPA course after department Chairman comes back from abroad," Prof Hossain added.
