Evidence of BNP's corruption to be traced out: Quader

September 30, 2019 00:00:00

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Sunday the evidences of corruption and assets earned illegally by BNP leaders during their regime will be traced out as the government's anti-graft drive continues, reports BSS.

"Evidences of corruption and illegal assets of BNP leaders, ministers and members of parliament (MPs) during the BNP regime will be revealed," he told newsmen after visiting the construction site of an underpass in front of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College on Airport Road in the city.

Terming the issue of amendment to the Road Transport Act 2018 as a rumoor, Quader said the ministry did not take any initiative to this end and it does not know anything about the amendment.

"But we've noticed that TIB expressed concern over the issue. We will look into the matter. If required, we will take actions," he said.

About the progress of the underpass construction, Quader said the army is implementing the project maintaining international standard.

The minister said the project's progress is now 70 percent and the work will end in December this year, six months before the estimated time.

He said the activities of the taskforce formed to ensure road safety will begin soon.

Asked about the issue of Jubo League Dhaka City South unit President Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat's arrest, Quader said the home minister has made a comment over this and his comment is appropriate as he has the authority to speak on the matter.

Bangladesh Army Engineer in Chief Major General Ibne Fazal Shayekhuzzaman, 24 Engineer Construction Brigade acting Director General Colonel SM Anwar Hossain and Ramiz Uddin Underpass Project Officer Major Abdullah Al Mamun Billah were present on the occasion, among others.

On July 29 in 2018, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, first-year students of the Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College, were killed as a bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on Airport Road in the capital. The project was undertaken following this tragic incident.
