Ex-BCL leader arrested from CU campus

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 31: Police arrested a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit from the campus on Wednesday night.

Arrested Fahim Hossain was organising secretary of the BCL's CU unit.

He was a cohort of former Chattogram city mayor and Awami League city unit's general secretary AZM Nasir Uddin.

A student of the accounting department of CU under the academic session 2012-13, Fahim Hossain hails from Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali district.

Sources said Fahim came to the campus and students caught him and later handed him over to the police on charge of attacking general students at CU during the July-August student uprising.

After the arrest, police produced him before the court on Thursday.

Officer-in-Charge of Hathazari thana Habibur Rahman said, "Fahim Hossain, former organising secretary of CU unit of BCL, was arrested on Wednesday night in a case over attack during the anti-discrimination student movement. He was sent to jail by the court on Thursday morning."
