A Dhaka court has placed Police former vice president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Nishita Iqbal Nodi and three others on a two-day remand each in an Anti-terrorism Act case filed with the capital's Kalabagan Police Station, report agencies.
The others who were put on remand are Alfat Ara Kajol, former joint secretary of the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall BCL, Shovon Majumder, a BCL activist from AIUB University, and Hasan Iman Shovon, a former BCL activist from Jahangirnagar University.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order on Sunday.
Sub-Inspector Tarek Mohammad Masum of Kalabagan Police Station, the investigating officer in the case, brought the four suspects to the court and petitioned for them to be remanded for seven days.
Public Prosecutor Omar Farooq Farooqi represented the state at the remand hearing. Farzana Yasmin Rakhi, on behalf of the defence, petitioned for their bail. The court made its decision after hearing from both sides.
Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch, said Nodi had been arrested from the capital's Bashundhara Residential area on Saturday night.
According to the case documents, leaders and activists of the BCL brought out a sudden procession in the capital's Kalabagan area around 6:00 am on Dec 13.
