Ex-BNP leader Lutfar Rahman produced before court

RAJSHAHI, Oct 7 (UNB): Former director of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) and former assistant-secretary of city BNP Lutfar Rahman was produced before the District and Sessions Judge Court in an extortion case today (Sunday).
Nurun Nabi of Shalgharia village in Durgapur Upazila and also a partner of Jamuna Seeds Cold Storage (Pvt) Limited filed the case against Lutfar Rahman with Durgapur police station on August 6.
The court asked to bring the case under Emergency Powers Rules when Lutfar Rahman was first produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court Thursday.
The complainant alleged that Lutfar Rahman demanded Tk 3.0 million from Nurun Nabi when he applied for Tk 70 million loans from RAKUB for setting up the cold storage in April 2004.
Later, Nurun Nabi gave Tk 2.90 million to Lutfar Rahman but he did not approve the loan.
Moreover, Lutfar Rahman with the help of local terrorists transferred share of Tk 10 million in his own name from Nurun Nabi at gunpoint.
Nurun Nabi filed a case against Lutfar Rahman and his two brothers - Fazlur Rahmana and Bazlur Rahman - soon after the incident.
Two more cases were filed against Lutfar Rahman with Shibganj police station for evading tax.
The Anti-corruption task force arrested Lutfar Rahman from Dhanmondi in Dhaka on July 30 and handed him over to Boalia police station of Rajshahi.
