Ex-DGFI chief gives testimony

CHITTAGONG, Apr 13: Former chief of DGFI retired major general Sadiq Hasan Rumi has given testimony in writing to a court here on the 10-truck arms smuggling case today. His nine pages written statement was recorded in the court of metropolitan magistrate Muntasir Mamun. Chittagong Metropolitan Police AC (Prosecution) Nirmalendu Bikash Chak-raborty told the media in the court premises that former forces intelligence chief Sadiq Hasan Rumi gave his statement in the court from 3.10 pm to 4.30 pm. The AC, however, declined to give details of the statement for the sake of investigation. A team of the CMP detained huge sophisticated arms and ammunition loaded in 10 trucks from a ship at the state-owned Chittagong Urea Fertlizer jetty at dead of night on April 1, 2004. The police filed arms and smuggling cases with Karnafuli police station of CMP. Former state minister for home affairs Lutfazzaman Babar, two former directors of the national security intelligence (NSI) and seven others are in custody in connection with the cases.
