A Dhaka court has sent to jail former Barishal-3 lawmaker Golam Kibria Tipu in a case lodged for attacking motorcade of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in 2018 in the capital, reports BSS.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman passed the order on Friday as police produced Tipu, also a presidium member of Jatiya Party, before the court with a prayer to keep him behind the bars until the completion of probe.
Police arrested the former lawmaker from South Keraniganj area on November 14.
According to the case documents, BNP chairperson's motorcade came under attack as the former prime minister was traveling from her Gulshan house to Bakshibazar special court on February 8, 2018. Several vehicles were vandalised, many people including Begum Khaleda Zia's security personnel and party activists got injured in the attack.
People's Party Chairman Babul Sardar Chakhari filed the case with Hatirjheel Police Station on November 8, 2024, against 65 people, including Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader.
