COMILLA, Aug 17 (UNB): A case was filed Thursday against 78 people, including former BNP lawmaker Zakaria Taher Sumon, on charge of extortion, ransacking houses, looting and arson attack.
Sources said Bachchu Miah Sarker, a resident of Krishnapur village in Barura Upazila, filed the case with Comilla No 5 cognizance court.
Accepting the case, Judge M Ashraf Hossain directed Barura thana officer-in-charge (OC) to take legal action after necessary investigation and to inform the court by September 24.
According to the complaint, Zakaria and his men demanded Tk 2.0 million (20 lakh) as toll from them and failing to realise the money they damaged the houses of 49 people, including Bachchu Miah, in two separate attacks on March 8 in 2002 and on April 29 in 2005.
