Ex-state minister Zakir on three-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed former state minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of electrician Shamim Hawlader in capital's Mohammadpur area, report agencies.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order on Friday as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand in the case.
Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested the former junior minister from the city's Mohammadpur area on Thursday.
Shamim Hawlader was shot in the Mohammadpur Beribadh area on July 20 during the anti- discrimination student movement. He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court has placed former senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Mustafa Kamal Uddin on a three-day remand and former secretary of Election commission (EC) Helal Uddin Ahmed on a four-day remand in separate murder cases.
Of the two, Mustafa Kamal Uddin was remanded in the case lodged over the murder of Juba Dal leader Shamim as police produced him before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter and pleaded to place him 10-day remand on Friday.
The same court also placed former EC secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed on four-day remand as police pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case filed over the killing of BNP activist Mokbul.
